Parc du Marquenterre, located in the heart of the Baie de Somme National Nature Reserve, is the ideal place to observe nature, and especially birds. For 40 years, this protected area has been an ornithological high point in Europe. 200 ha of marshes, dunes and reed beds located between land and sea where the birds stop over for a few days to recharge their batteries during their migration while others come here to overwinter or breed.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Parc du Marquenterre is a region shaped by man. In the 1950s, 200 hectares of land were reclaimed from the sea to grow tulips. Later, in the spring of 1973, the site was transformed into an ornithological park. In 1986, it became the property of the Conservatoire du Littoral and incorporated the Baie de Somme Nature Reserve in 1994. Today, it’s managed by the Syndicat Mixte Baie de Somme-Grand Littoral Picard.
